H-Saracen
We chose this old stallion to compliment our government- Brunk breeding program. While he only lived for 7 months after our purchase- he produced 5 foals that next year ( out of 14 mares bred to him)-we kept his best daughter- Ragtime Easy Street and she is in our broodmare band for keeps.
Saracen was the victim of a very hard life- he ran out on the range in Wyoming with ranch mares until the age of 16. He was purchased by a friend, Butch Martin of S Bar B Morgans and started being bred to Morgan mares- producing his first registered foal at the age of 17 if my memory serves. In spite of little handling at an early age- he was a gentleman and had the nickname "Scarey" as he was such a love. He was all business and did not know how to love people- but was tolerant and kind. He was a credit to the intensely in-bred Jubilee King blood he represents through Warhawk. He had severe heaves when I purchased him- which we quickly brought under control in this dry climate- but tragically suffered a stroke on Thanksgiving day. We kept him alive with IV fluids for 12 days- but he did not recover the ability to swallow- and we put him down to spare him the last of his misery.
He was heavy boned and rather coarse- had a head that was a bit rough but short and tiny ears.We are tough on long hips in our program though- and he had the very best of hips and short backs.Good deep shoulder- and I am sure was a great mover in his youth- though he rarely trotted in his arthritic old age here. His knees showed the resulting scars and arthritis from years of being kicked by mares- but was a pleasant horse and we treasure our memories of him. We also treasure Easy as she is possibly our best broodmare.
